When we pulled up to the end of the road, the vehicle was s-w-a-r-m-e-d with mosquitoes. I've never seen so many in my life. It was disgusting and made me shudder. I wanted to stay in the car until it was time to go home. Alas, we got out and made a run for it to the shore of the lake, where the bugs weren't. It was windy enough to keep the bugs away, so our spot, with a great shoreline and view of the pingos was perfect.
Patti, Barry's girlfriend started off our excursion by saying that in all her life living here, she's never caught a fish. Well... it was one after another with her yesterday! She pulled out three coney, and Andrew caught another two. No luck for the rest of us, but it was still fun listening to Patti scream "Barry, Barry, BARRYYYYYYY.... do something!!" each time she snagged a fish.
The midnight sun sure makes it tough to tell what time it is. We went out at about 5pm, and decided to go home around 10:30pm, even though the sun was still as bright as ever. It was a bit chilly, and we had burned all the wood we could scavenge, so we were getting cold quickly.
Here are some pictures from our day out on the land:
Our fishing lake with a pingo in the background. Very scenic!
Patti's first catch!
