BBQs on the beach...

The warm weather is here, and after a long winter indoors we're very eager to get back outside, to enjoy the weather before the bugs bombard Tuk! When south for vacation, Deon spotted a handy little charcoal BBQ at the Real Canadian Superstore and picked it up for us to try out. It is really light, and packed really well in our luggage, as it comes apart, and items could be stored inside it. And, it was a really great value!

We have had a few BBQs since we got back from vacation, including a few with our friends from work. Barry had some lava rocks sitting around, which work great in the BBQ with some sticks to create heat that is then held by the lava rocks.

On Sunday, Deon and I decided to have a BBQ on the beach for dinner, wherein we'd cook some chicken with a pesto sauce that I made with our fresh basil, and some grilled veggies (peppers, mushrooms, and fresh cherry tomatoes from our cherry tomato window plant) with some greek marinade on them.

We had just made ourselves comfortable on the beach, with a fire started to boil water for tea, and the BBQ heating up nicely when two little gaffers made their way by, walking along the beach. At ages 4 and grade 4, these kids were pretty cute, two brothers on their way to visit Sister Faye. However, they got a bit sidetracked on their trek, and decided to join us for dinner by sitting down on the log next to us. Soon after, I heard "excuse me, could we please try some of your chicken?"... so we let them have some chicken and veggies... although only the little guy liked the veggies. The older one "doesn't eat vegetables." haha. And when they were done... "excuse me, we really liked the chicken. Could we please have some more?" Of course we couldn't say no. Needless to say, we went home and had some more dinner there.

As we were on the beach, we watched several hunters coming in from a weekend on the land... The ocean is very close to breaking up, and the trip looks slightly risky. Here's a picture of how the ocean looks, and how the hunters travel on the less-than-stable ice!
